Kawasho Foods Corporation (president: Kohei Yoneda; headquarters: Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo), a member of the JFE Shoji Group, has announced the re-launch of a key member of the Nozaki-brand retort-pouch line-up: Nozaki’s Luncheon Meat (contents 70g, price: 147 yen including tax). The revamped product is to be sold at supermarkets and convenience stores nationwide starting on Monday, March 1, 2010.
Luncheon meat is highly popular in Okinawa, where it is commonly known simply as “pork”. It is a vital ingredient in many local delicacies such as champuru stir-fry and omusubi rice balls.
Nozaki’s Luncheon Meat has undergone a revamp to increase the volume of each pack from 65g to 70g and slightly reduce the amount of fat in the product(*) without compromising its attraction as a no-waste product that can be used all in one go. The package design has also been revised to include reader-friendly recipe ideas.
As a result of these modifications, Nozaki’s Luncheon Meat is now more than ever a must-have item for such fried fare as champuru. Also, because it is pre-cooked, it is also ideal as a snack, a packed lunch ingredient, or for adding extra zing to a range of dishes.
In addition to Nozaki’s Luncheon Meat, the Nozaki retort-pouch series includes seven other products: Nozaki’s Otsumami (“snack”) Corned Beef Slices, Nozaki’s Otsumami Hosemeat Slices, Nozaki’s Pork Luncheon Meat, Nozaki’s Wiener Sausages, Nozaki’s Pirikara (“spicy”) Sausages, Nozaki’s Soft Beef and Nozaki’s New Corned Meat.

One 70g pouch of Nozaki’s Luncheon Meat contains 10.7g of fat; one pouch of the old 65g size contained 12.9g of fat (source: Kawasho Foods analysis). |
